ABOUT MAGNOLIAS OF SANTEE
A family-centered approach to senior care.
Magnolias of Santee is built around a simple belief: older adults deserve compassionate support that preserves their dignity, respects their independence, and helps them continue enjoying a meaningful quality of life.
our story
It began with family.
For the Lockwood family, caring for older adults isn’t a business model, but rather a commitment they’ve kept since 1979, one resident and one family at a time.
That commitment has always come down to something simple: paying attention. Noticing which chair someone prefers. Remembering the story behind a photograph. Sitting close during a hard moment. Learning what a person can still do, and building each day around that.
That’s still true at Magnolias of Branchville.
Our community is dedicated entirely to memory care; not one option on a longer list, but the whole focus of everything the team does here. Rather than asking residents to adjust to an unfamiliar system, we take the time to learn their routines, their preferences, and what they’re still able to do on their own.
The result is a home, not a facility, secure enough for real peace of mind, and personal enough that residents are known by name, not by room number.
The Lockwood family’s decades in senior care, and their belief that small gestures matter most, shape life at Magnolias of Branchville every day.
Our approach to care
If it’s not good enough for Grandma, it’s not good enough.
That belief shapes every part of daily life at Magnolias of Branchville.
It’s reflected in how a new resident is welcomed, how our team talks with families, and how each person’s care is built around who they actually are, not just their diagnosis.
It’s why staffing runs at about four residents for every staff member during the day, so nothing about a resident’s care gets rushed or overlooked.
It’s why meals are served family style, at each resident’s own pace rather than a fixed schedule: some residents eat quickly, others take their time, and both are treated as perfectly normal.
And because Magnolias of Branchville is dedicated entirely to memory care, that same attention shapes absolutely everything here, not just one part of it.
LIFE AT MAGNOLIAS OF BRANCHVILLE
What that means here at Magnolias of Branchville.
At Magnolias of Branchville, our philosophy is expressed through everyday moments.
It is found in conversations between friends, shared meals around the dining table, time outdoors in the garden, family visits, activities, and familiar routines that bring comfort to the day.
Residents are encouraged to remain involved in their own lives. They can make choices, maintain meaningful relationships, participate at their own comfort level, and receive assistance without losing their sense of identity.
Our goal is not simply to provide a safe place to live. It is to create a peaceful, welcoming community where every resident can feel known, respected, and included.
Magnolias is described by the client as warm, Southern, peaceful, inviting, active, and family-focused.
Our philosophy
More than care. A place to belong.
Our mission is to serve seniors in a way that preserves their dignity, promotes their independence, and enhances their quality of life.
That mission shapes how we approach personal care, relationships, dining, activities, safety, and communication with families.
We believe good senior care begins by seeing the whole person—not simply the assistance they require.
Dignity
Every resident deserves to be spoken to, supported, and cared for with patience and respect. We recognize the life experience, personal values, and individuality each person brings to our community.
Social connection
From family-style meals to visits from Dream, our resident beagle, moments of connection are built into every day, not treated as an extra.
Safety & peace of mind
Mag-lock doors, a gated courtyard, and a fully secure building mean residents can move freely without families having to worry about their safety.
Independence
Residents are supported to do as much for themselves as they’re able, whether that’s getting dressed, walking to the courtyard, or taking part in a task like folding laundry at their own pace.
Emotional wellbeing
A familiar routine, a friendly face, a personal photo on the wall — the small, steady things that help someone feel safe and calm, even when memory isn’t reliable.
Purpose & engagement
Residents are encouraged to take part in activities that reflect their interests and abilities. Whether joining a group activity, attending a spiritual service, helping with a familiar task, or enjoying a quiet conversation, meaningful engagement can take many forms.
PERSONALIZED CARE
Experience matters. Relationships matter more.
Magnolias of Branchville is supported by a team committed to compassionate care and the surrounding community. Scott Lockwood serves as President of the Walterboro Rotary Club, Randal Hiers sits on the Board of Directors for the Tri-County Chamber, and Kimberly is a member and chair of SCLA.
Experience and training are important, but what matters most is how those qualities shape everyday life:
A thoughtful conversation with a concerned family member.
Residents are treated with the same compassion we would want for our own mothers and fathers.
A familiar face when reassurance is needed, and a helping hand always close by.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
A network of service, faith, and connection.
Caring well for someone living with memory loss is rarely something one team can manage by itself.
Magnolias of Branchville works with trusted partners so residents and families have more support than what happens inside these walls alone, coordinating with home health and hospice providers as needs change, and staying connected to the local Alzheimer’s Association for families who want more resources.
Home health & hospice coordination
For residents with more complex or changing needs, our team coordinates directly with home health and hospice partners, so care stays consistent even as circumstances shift.
Family & visiting flexibility
Families are welcome daily between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with no set window during end-of-life care, because some moments can’t wait for visiting hours.
Alzheimer's Association affiliation
Magnolias of Branchville is affiliated with the local Alzheimer’s Association, giving families access to additional resources and support beyond what we provide directly.
Rooted in the local community
The Lockwood family stays active in the towns Magnolias serves, including leadership roles with the Walterboro Rotary Club, the Tri-County Chamber, and SCLA.
